Rio De Janiero/Nietrio Week 5

Monday July 13th Day 30
Today we did some grocery shopping in the morning, followed by a yummy fruit smoothie and chocolate shake for breakfast. As we were walking back to our apartment there was a teenager playing his violin while his friend banged a bucket to the beat. They sounded really good and we enjoyed listening to them.

That night our friends Flavia and Alexander took us to a beautiful Italian restaurant (Da Carmine) where they had a rodizio. We were served different pizzas and pastas throughout the night. The food was amazing!

After dinner we walked around that part of town (Rua Nóbrega, Rua Doutor Leandro Mota, and Rua Mariz e Barros in Jardim Icaraí) while visiting. We enjoy hanging out with friends!

Day 31 Tuesday July 14th
We were able to go swimming today at our friend Chris's boat club. We first had a good lunch and Osana (the bishop's wife) and her kids met up with us. The kids had spaghetti, and I had chicken with vegetables. The kids ate well. Osana's kiddos love our kids and they play really well together. The pool was the perfect for the kids. Not very deep, so both Elise and Tyler were able to get around easily in it. They had so much fun!

After swimming for a few hours, we played at a small park they had in the club. We were all exhausted by the time we got home. So thankful for the good friends we have here!

Day 33 Thursday July 16th
Tonight our friends Alexandre and Flavia came by to bring our family gifts. They got me and Jacob pairs of Habaianas (sandals famous for Rio), Tyler a stuffed monkey, and Elise a shirt with a girl chasing butterflies on it.

After their sweet gifts we headed to the "Eve" of the Adam and Eve beaches (Praia de Adão e Eva). From there we looked across the bay at Rio and we also saw some stars, including the Southern Cross for the first time. There were 7 year old girls that kept coming up to us saying "Hello my friends". So cute!

After the beach we went to have yummy crepes at a restaurant in Piratininga called Creperia Brasil.

  Margarita crepe
   Apple cinnamon crepe

After that we went to the beautiful ocean beach, Praia de Camboinhas. It was dark but we could see the big waves and see even more stars. The beach is in a residential area and when we were leaving we saw a small owl on a fence.

Day 34 Friday July 17th
Today we picked up a friend, Dee, from the airport with our friend Chris. After Chris picked us up, we bought some fresh squeezed watermelon and guava juice for the road. It took us about a half hour to get to the airport and the ride there was beautiful!

We had a little time while waiting for Dee, so we enjoyed fresh cheese bread and chocolate muffins. After we picked up Dee, we had an amazing pasta lunch at a restaurant at the mall (Plaza Shopping) called Diversão. Later that night our friends Alexandre and Flavia met up with us and we had dinner at a resterant called that was a short walk from our apartment. Followed by a beautiful walk on the beach.

Day 35 July 18th
Can't believe we only have one week left in Brazil. This month and a half has gone by fast! I am happy about returning home but so sad to leave the wonderful friends we have made and beautiful Brazil! We were able to visit sugarloaf mountain today. There is a tram that goes up the mountain then to another mountain. The view from the tram and on top of Sugarlaof is breathtaking! On the way to sugarloaf w where able to take the ferry that goes from Nietrio to downtown Rio in about 15 minutes.

After a fun afternoon at Sugarloaf we visited the Vermelha Beach and then we headed to a new mall (Rio Sul) where we had a yummy dinner and did some window shopping. We took a nice bus home which took about an hour and I sat by a nice guy who spoke very good English. He told me that now that we have lived here we have a little part of Brazilian in us. I thought that was sweet. We were exhausted by the end of the day.
