I love yearly family pictures. It is fun to see how much the kids have grown and how much we have changed. We found a new photographer this year. These were taken in the Bosque. It was muddy and cold but we were able to get some beautiful shots. I really love how they all turned out ! So blessed to have my beautiful family!
Jacob had another conference, this time in San Diego. We drove in on Friday, November 11th and
got there a little before the sun went down. We stayed at the beautiful
Wyndham San Diego Bayside hotel that looked like it overlooked the
ocean. The kids and I enjoyed looking out the window of the hotel and
seeing the boats and water every morning.
morning, before Jacob started his conference, we visited Coronado beach
for a couple hours. It was a beautiful day and the kids and I love the
beach! After working up an appetite we ate at one of our favorite places
in San Diego, Project Pie. Everyone got their own personalized pizza
(half pizza for the kids), and then we shared a banana nutella pizza for
dessert. Project Pie has since been purchased by Pieology, and they
recently closed the Hillcrest location that we used to go to. We will
have to find a replacement for our Project Pie cravings the next time we
Saturday evening we walked to Seaport Village. It was such a beautiful walk!Seaport
Villlage is filled with lots of fun shops and good food. It was fun
exploring the shops and admiring the amazing sunset. Jacob
joined us there in the evening where we bought food from different
restaurants and enjoyed watching Elise dance to the music playing in the
we had breakfast at the Hazelwoods on the Bay diner, which is right
next door to our hotel. The kids enjoyed waffles and Jacob had a burger.
Then he left for his conference and the kids and I figured out how to
go to the zoo. Our hotel had a shuttle that took us to and from the zoo, which was very convenient. The
San Diego Zoo is huge and requires a lot of up hill walking. It took a
lot out of me pushing a stroller in the hot sun and being pregnant. We
enjoyed ourselves though. We ate at the Safari Kitchen and shopped at
the zoo store.
That evening Jacob had a surprise planned for us. We had a
special dinner on a Flagship boat. It was delicious (although the kids
didn't eat much of their food) and we enjoyed eating while the ship
sailed around the bay. There was a live performer that played special
songs for Jacob and Elise to dance to in the upper deck. There was even a
proposal that happened on board which made it extra special.
dropped me and the kids off at Seaworld for the day. This was our
favorite activity while in San Diego. The kids got to feed the seals and
touch all kinds of different sea animals. We also had an unlimited meal
plan so we got snacks every few hours. After he picked us up in the
evening we were ready to just eat in the hotel, so we ordered some yummy
takeout from the Panda Inn restaurant at the Horton Plaza mall.
after breakfast at Hazelwoods, the kids and I made our way to the
Horton Plaza mall, where I got to check out the fun outlets and go
shopping. Jacob met us there briefly and shared crepes with the kids.
That evening we went out for pizza again at Project Pie.
On Wednesday the kids and I spent the morning at the San Diego Zoo, and we tried out the Carnitas Snack Shack for dinner.
The conference ended Wednesday evening, and we left early Thursday
morning and headed to Anaheim. The kids were happily surprised to find
out our vacation wasn't over! I had bought a stuffed Minnie and Mickey
to give them as a hint to where we were going. It didn't take too long
for them to figure it out.
first day at Disneyland included meeting Anna and Elsa in the morning
and Princess Elena of Avalor in the early afternoon.
We were there
during the Festival of Holidays so there was a special parade at the
Pier that we watched. I had street style tacos from the Paradise Garden
Grill, and the kids had corn dogs from a nearby vendor. We enjoyed the
live music from a group called "Villa 5" while we ate, and finished our
lunch with ice cream and the fishing game on the boardwalk while Jacob
took Tyler on the Cars ride twice with the fast passes we got earlier.
We relaxed in the Bugs' Life park for a while, then met Sully outside
the Monsters, Inc ride. Jacob and Tyler went on the Grizzly peak ride a
few times while Elise and I did the Little Mermaid ride a few times, and
then we went together for milkshakes at the Ghirardelli shop before
getting seats at the Frozen musical. After watching the musical we got
to see Captain America and Spiderman and ride the Monsters, Inc ride,
and I did an Animation Academy workshop, before we headed back to our
hotel room for a break. After jumping on the bed and getting their
wiggles out, we walked to The Pizza Press for dinner, which is kind of
like Project Pie. We returned to the Disneyland side of the park to
watch the evening show with artificial snow and fireworks and Jacob and
Tyler headed off to catch one last Cars ride.
morning we got to try the breakfast buffet at our hotel for the first
time. We stayed at the Best Western Park Place Inn, right across the
street from Disneyland, and they give you access to the Captain Kidd's
buffet next door. We had donuts, french toast, fruit, juice, yogurt,
eggs, ham, etc. After the feast we met Holiday Mickey, rode on a
horse-drawn buggy, and then met Cruella de Vil, who is the only Disney
character we know that will insult your children as you take pictures
with them. We also met Belle, and then Flynn Rider and Rapunzel as we
waited to see the other princesses in their castle. Elise kept hugging
other little girls she saw who were wearing dresses, certain that they
were princesses and there to be hugged by her. After meeting Snow White,
Ariel, and Cinderella, I took the kids on the Pirates of the Caribbean
ride while Jacob got us VIP seats for the early afternoon Christmas
parade. Elise slept while Tyler ate cotton candy during the parade.
Afterwards we had Tyler do the Jedi Training Academy. He was cute as he
held his lightsaber out, standing pretty still while the Sith character
hit his lightsaber with hers. He and Jacob went on the "Star Tours" ride
next, while Elise and I did the Winnie the Pooh ride.
Then we were hungry and went to Earl of Sandwich for a yummy dinner.
The kids had fruit, chips, a muffin, and pudding while we had potato
salad and sandwiches. After dinner Jacob and Tyler did the Cars ride
again while Elise and I went back to Ariel's Undersea Adventure yet
again. Then I did the animation studio.
Saturday morning, we went to a special "Minnie & Friends" character
breakfast for the kids at the Plaza Inn on the Disneyland side. The
kids got to meet a dozen characters while we had our fill of breakfast
foods. Jacob's favorite was the caramel syrup-covered french toast.
Jacob and Tyler spent much of the afternoon riding Splash Mountain,
while Elise and I enjoyed the less intense rides. We had our fill of fun
with all the characters we met and the relaxing time we had enjoying
the rides. On the drive home the next day, everyone was exhausted but we
were thankful for this fun family trip!
